The fact that they produce heroin is the reason why I grew the opium poppies in the first place. I wanted to grow the poppies in different types of soil so that I could analyse the metals ions in the heroin and compare it to the metal ions in the soil to investigate whether the information can be used to determine where in the world a sample of heroin has originated. I am conducting my research to hopefully assist in the fight against drugs, not because I like drugs myself 🙂
