I collect them from the wild – caught some this morning actually!
Its really simple; just cut the top off a cola bottle, put some liver and kitchen roll inside and invert the top inside the bottle to make a funnel. The flies fly in to lay their eggs on the meat, but cannot find their way out of the inverted funnel – they are a bit stupid!
With the flies and eggs we collect (had about 10 flies this morning and ~400 eggs) we breed large colonies, which we can keep going for about 4 generations before they become inbred and slow. We then kill the old colony off and catch a few more.
