      Hi katijupp

That’s a great question ! The worry about making mistakes doesn’t only happen when you start working in the field ! Forensic scientists get a lot of on the job training once they start in the job and that builds their skills and gives them confidence. Also in many cases when a scientist is starting to report on cases for court, their work is checked by a second experienced scientist for the first number of cases (in Scotland all case work is checked by a second scientist).

It’s really important that forensic scientists stay within their areas of expertise so that they are confident in their work and so don’t feel pressurised. There are always other colleagues to ask for advice and talk over cases when you might get a bit stuck.
