Hi, I would love to be regarded as a scientist, but all I can claim is to be really interested in science and I am lucky enough to work very closely with several different disciplines of science. Science gives me the tools to do my job, which I love.
Having an interest in science, or one particular part of science is usually self-perpetuating – the more that you find out, the more that you need to find out, the more that there is to find out. Nothing in science seems to have a defined, unchanging end point. All concepts and facts are under review.
Being a scientist means that you are trying to puzzle a problem out logically and methodologically which hopefully will have a successful outcome.
For me, it means I can, in a small way, progress the knowledge of science a little bit. In my area it is working out which geophysical method would have the best chance of finding a buried object.
Hi Rallyson13 – being a scientist for me is about finding out how things work and being able to produce theorys that are accepted by the scientific community when you publish your work. Also helping other younger researchers develop their skills as scientists is great and very satisfying
It means a lot, or I wouldnt choose it for a career. I feel its important we know how and why life in general works, and how we can improve the way we live using science. Wouldnt it be great if we could find cures for cancer, and live longer? Without science this wouldnt be possible.
